Sudip Roy Barman alleges factional pressure on CM, warns of legal action against wrongdoers

Date:

Agartala, 24th October 2026 : Senior Congress MLA and former Tripura Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman has claimed that Chief Minister Manik Saha is under considerable mental strain because of internal factional conflicts and pressure from rival groups allegedly involved in plundering resources beyond her control. He also warned that the Congress would have no place for partisan journalists and troublemakers, asserting that every act of wrongdoing would be dealt with through legal proceedings.

Launching a sharp attack on the BJP government, Roy Barman alleged that democratic institutions were being weakened and public resources misused for political gains. He maintained that defending human rights, protecting freedom of expression and restoring democratic accountability remained the collective responsibility of citizens.

Referring to the Chief Minister’s recent remarks, the Congress legislator said he did not wish to engage in a direct exchange but alleged that pressure from within the ruling establishment was affecting her conduct.

He claimed that rival factions were challenging her authority while certain groups operated without effective administrative control. According to Roy Barman, the situation reflected growing divisions within the ruling party.

The MLA also accused BJP-affiliated clubs of functioning as extensions of the party’s local organisational units, alleging that opposition representatives were deliberately excluded from their programmes. He questioned the use of public funds for political purposes and claimed that some clubs were exerting pressure on residents and engaging in questionable land-related activities.

On the national front, Roy Barman criticised the BJP-led government’s handling of democratic institutions and electoral processes. He said the Congress and the INDIA bloc were preparing to mobilise people at Ramlila Maidan on the first of the coming month, demanding electoral reforms, protection of eligible voters and changes to the appointment process for Election Commissioners.

He argued that excluding legitimate voters undermined democracy and deprived citizens of their political voice.

Roy Barman also cautioned BJP workers against being exploited by individuals allegedly engaged in profiteering and resource plunder, suggesting that the political situation could change in the near future.

Issuing a stern warning, he declared that the Congress would permanently shut its doors to journalists and individuals he described as instigators and troublemakers. He stressed that allegations of wrongdoing would be pursued through legal channels.
