Ambassa: August 27. In a significant breakthrough, the police have successfully unraveled a rice scam operating out of an FCI godown in Ambassa Jawharnagar. The operation, which spanned over several hours, resulted in the apprehension of two individuals and the recovery of stolen rice from a location in Kulai.

The accused, identified as Ranjan Debnath and Sudhir Debnath, were caught red-handed with their storage facility teeming with sacks of pilfered rice. The raid on Ranjan’s shop, which commenced today, persisted tirelessly throughout the day and finally concluded at approximately nine o’clock in the evening. The meticulously executed police operation yielded an extensive cache of stolen rice, stored within the premises of the two culprits. A police official confirmed that the case has been registered under case number 26/20023 at the Ambasa police station, with the initial complaint filed by the administration of Ambassa Sub-division on May 12.

Approximately 63 thousand kilograms of rice were traced from the godown which was lost, forming a vital piece of evidence in the investigation. The police further revealed that a comprehensive examination conducted by the Consumer Affairs Lab of the Director of Food and Civil Suppliers confirmed the match between the rice discovered in the rice owned by Sudhir and Ranjan and the Public Distribution System (PDS) rice.
