Agartala, September 1, 2023: A group of 100 contractual nurses, who were appointed during the COVID-19 pandemic period in Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital, staged a protest on Friday and demanded the government to regularize their services or face legal action.
Speaking to media persons here, one of the nurses Prasenjit Das said that they have been working tirelessly for the COVID patients in GBP Hospital for almost three years, but the government has not fulfilled its promise of giving them grace marks, priority and fixed salary.
The nurses, who gathered in front of the Dedicated Covid Hospital premises, told the media that they have not been paid for the past five to six months. They said that they have approached the Medical Superintendent and the Director of Health Services, but they did not get any satisfactory response. They said that the Director told them that there was no fund allotted for these nurses.
The nurses warned that if the government or the Health department did not take appropriate measures for their betterment, they would file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the High Court of Tripura. They said that they deserve to be regularized as they have served the state during the pandemic crisis.
