Agartala, February 09: A tenant of a ruling party member’s house was brutally assaulted by four neighbours over a land dispute in Kathaltali area under Airport police station on Friday. The assailants also looted gold ornaments and cash from the victim’s house.

The victim, identified as Sampa Das, was attacked by her uncle Bishnu Das alias Mona, aunt Rina Das, uncle’s father-in-law Bikash Das and uncle’s mother-in-law Soma Das. The attack took place when Sampa’s husband was not at home. The assailants broke Sampa’s hands and inflicted severe injuries on her body. They also snatched away one ‘Bhori’ of gold chain and Rs 58 thousand in cash from her.

The locals rescued Sampa and rushed her to the hospital. She is currently undergoing treatment and her condition is said to be critical.

Sampa and her family alleged that they had lodged a written complaint at the airport police station, but the police did not take any action against the accused. They also demanded that the authorities take appropriate action against the assailants and ensure their security. They claimed that the assailants had threatened to kill them if they did not vacate the house of the ruling party member.

On the other hand, the accused denied the allegations and said that they had no involvement in the attack. Reportedly, they refused to face the media and give their version of the incident.

A video of the attack, captured by a CCTV camera installed in the victim’s house, has been released by the victim’s family. The video shows the four assailants entering the house and assaulting Sampa with sticks and rods.

The incident has sparked outrage among the locals, who staged a protest outside the airport police station, demanding justice for Sampa. They accused the police of being biased and protecting the ruling party member’s neighbours.

However, Airport police station sources said that they were investigating the case and would take necessary action after verifying the facts. They also said that they had provided security to the victim’s family and were trying to maintain law and order in the area.
