PhysicsWallah, others move SC challenging grace marks in NEET UG 2024 exam

Date:

The Supreme Court is likely to hear this week, petitions filed by students against the random awarding of grace marks to some candidates in the NEET UG 2024 examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Physics Wallah chief executive Alakh Pandey is among the many petitioners who have moved the apex court against the random awarding of grace marks to at least 1,500 students in the NEET UG 2024 examination.

Advocate Sai Deepak appearing for the Noida-based edtech firm’s CEO Alakh Pandey accused the examination agency of inefficiency in explaining the formula behind giving grace marks to the students.

Pandey said his team has collected signatures from about 20,000 students, which clearly shows that approximately 70 to 80 marks have been awarded randomly to at least 1,500 students.

The Vacation Bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah on June 11 (Tuesday) issued a notice to the Centre and NTA over another petition seeking to cancel the results of the NEET-UG 2024, a competitive entrance test for undergraduate medical courses, amid allegations that the paper was leaked.

The Bench remarked, “The sanctity of the exam has been affected, so we need answers.”

It, however, refused to stay the counselling.

The case which came up before the Apex Court on June 11 was filed earlier.

Fresh petitions were filed on June 11 for an urgent hearing. These petitions raise questions about awarding grace marks, the procedure followed, and the disclosure of all details with full transparency in declaring the result of the NEET-UG 2024 exam.

The Petitions are likely to come up for hearing before the vacation bench this week.
