Manik Sarkar Highlights BJP’s Decline: Urges Public to Unite Against Anti-People Policies

Agartala, 17th July 2024:  Former Tripura Chief Minister and Politburo member Manik Sarkar on Wednesday highlighted the shifting political dynamics in India. Sarkar emphasized that political power is not permanent, citing recent events that have put the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on notice.

“Not everyone is the same forever. Once we take power, we are the last; I will stay there – this is not the case. This has been proven in the last 40 days,” Sarkar declared, referencing the BJP’s recent challenges while addressing a memorial meeting at the CITU office on Wednesday.

In a span of just 40 days, the BJP has faced two significant setbacks. First, while they were not outright defeated in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they failed to secure a majority independently. Secondly, in by-elections held for 13 constituencies, the BJP managed to win only two seats, with the remaining ten going to the India Alliance and one to an independent candidate.

“The results are a clear message,” Sarkar asserted. “The BJP should learn from this. They can’t wield power like before, as the party is significantly influenced by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Even the RSS has expressed concern over such outcomes and has attempted to critique and advise Prime Minister Modi against anti-people activities.”

Sarkar’s remarks came during the memorial meeting for Ramendra Chandra Dasgupta, a respected figure in the labor movement. He stressed that the political situation is evolving and the fight against anti-people policies must continue. “Different programs, including agitation and deputation, should be undertaken by uniting people against these activities, even on a small scale,” he said.

Reflecting on the recent bandh observed in memory of the late candidate Badal Shil of Rajnagar, Sarkar noted the public’s strong response. “Despite BJP efforts to prevent the bandh, people stayed home, avoided the markets, and refrained from using their vehicles. Notably, there was no participation in the Kharchi Puja, which underscores the growing mistrust in the government,” he explained.

Sarkar also pointed out the internal discord within the BJP, particularly as the panchayat elections approach. “The panchayat election is the most lucrative, lacking transparency. It’s a center for income generation, and BJP’s reluctance to hold elections reflects their fear of public backlash,” he added.

He concluded with a call to action: “The fight must continue because those in power are allied with extremist forces.” The memorial meeting was attended by former minister Manik Dey, organizational leader Rama Das, and other notable figures.

These developments indicate a shifting political landscape, with the BJP facing increasing scrutiny and opposition from various quarters, including from within its allied organizations like the RSS.
