Agartala, 18th July 2024: Kiran Gitte, IAS, the Health Secretary of the Tripura Government, recently secured first place for his case study on water-logging and flood control in Agartala at a training camp held by the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. The event, conducted from June 18 to July 13, featured 83 IAS officers from 23 different states.
According to sources within the Tripura Government, the award-winning case study is based on the Agartala Flood Mitigation Project. During the training camp, each participating IAS officer was required to submit a case study. Kiran Gitte’s submission drew from his tenure as Secretary of the Urban Development Department and Chairman of the Agartala Smart City Project during 2019-20.
The Agartala Flood Mitigation Project encompasses several initiatives, including the installation of sewerage and diesel-powered pumps, the laying of underground pipelines and power supplies, mechanical drain cleaning, the construction of new drains and Swiss gates, and 24/7 flood situation monitoring through an integrated command system. These efforts have drastically reduced water accumulation time from 2-3 days to less than an hour during heavy rainfall of up to 150 mm.
Sriram Taranikanti, the Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, presented the award to Kiran Gitte in recognition of his outstanding work.
