Agartala, 10th August 2024:   Residents of Bagarchatal, a suburb of Agartala are grappling with an overwhelming stench emanating from a broiler chicken farm established in their vicinity. The farm located near Madhuban Rishipara and adjacent to the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram, has been a source of distress for the local community.

The farm has been operational for several years, was joined by another facility set up by the same owner approximately 1 to 1.5 years ago. Despite initial assurances from the owner that the farms would not produce any unpleasant odors, the reality has been starkly different. The pervasive smell has spread throughout the area, causing significant discomfort to the residents.

Repeated complaints to the farm owner have yielded no action, prompting the affected locals to escalate the issue to their local MLA. However, their pleas for intervention have so far gone unanswered.

One resident lamented, “The owner is making millions at the expense of our well-being. This situation is unacceptable.” The community is now demanding the immediate removal of the poultry farm or, at the very least, effective measures to mitigate the odor.

The residents are calling on the administration to address their grievances urgently, emphasizing that their quality of life has been severely impacted by the farm’s operations.
