Agartala, 28th August 2024: The Monsoon session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly is set to begin on September 4 and will conclude on September 6. This decision was announced by Tripura’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, following a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting chaired by Speaker Biswabandhu Sen and Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul on Wednesday.
Minister Nath, who also oversees the Agriculture and Power portfolios, informed reporters that the assembly session will be shortened to three days due to the recent severe floods that have impacted the state. The decision was made unanimously by the members of the political parties, considering the ongoing relief efforts involving all MLAs and ministers.
“The Assembly session will be held on September 4, 5, and 6. During today’s BAC meeting, which was attended by all members including Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, it was collectively decided that the session would not extend beyond three days given the current flood situation,” Nath stated. He mentioned that Congress representatives were absent, but all other members were present and in agreement.
The session will include a discussion on the flood situation, with contributions from both the ruling and opposition parties. Two bills are slated to be introduced, with debates scheduled for the final day. The session will commence with a question-and-answer period on the first day, followed by the introduction of the bills.
Minister Nath also highlighted that the BAC meeting started with a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives in the floods.
