Pope Francis arrives in Indonesia for official visit

Date:

Pope Francis arrived in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on Tuesday for an official visit, which marks the start of a 12-day Asia-Pacific tour, Indonesian broadcaster Kompas reported.

The pontiff, whose plane landed in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, will stay in Indonesia from September 3-6 before traveling to Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said he wanted to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Ukrainian crisis with the pope.

Jakarta will host a state reception to welcome Pope Francis. On the third day of his visit, the pontiff will hold a mass at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium for about 90,000 Catholics. He also has several public events planned, including a meeting with the supreme imam of Jakarta’s Istiklal Mosque, Nasaruddin Umar.
