CPIM party office at Nutanbazar demolished after six years of abandonment

Agartala, 24th September 2024:   The long-abandoned CPIM party office in Nutanbazar was finally demolished by the authorities yesterday ending years of tension. The office had remained unused for six and a half years, following the opposition party’s failure to remove the building after a change of power in the state in 2018.

At that time, the ruling government ordered the demolition of opposition party offices constructed on government land across the state. While the Congress office in Nutanbazar was razed, the CPIM office managed to escape demolition. In anticipation of the action, CPIM leaders from the Nutanbazar area swiftly moved furniture out of the building overnight, leaving it vacant.

Despite standing empty, the CPIM office continued to be a source of contention for local leaders of the ruling party. For several years, they pressured the sub-divisional administration to take action against the structure.

Yesterday afternoon, under the supervision of DCM Pallabi Roy and with a significant police presence, the office was officially reclaimed as government property and demolished. The long-standing dispute over the building’s fate has now come to a close.
