Agartala, 4th October 2024:  The Tripura government is set to launch the e-DAR (Electronic Detailed Accident Report) application, aimed at enhancing road safety by ensuring timely and accurate accident reporting, which will lead to quicker responses and preventive measures. The official launch is scheduled for November, with Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury officiating the event.

In preparation for the launch, a significant workshop was conducted today in a hybrid format, led by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha. Key participants included C.K. Jamatia, Secretary of Transport; Sanjoy Bhattacharjee, Secretary of Law; Kiran Gitte, Secretary of Health; Brijesh Pandey, Secretary of Revenue; as well as senior officials from various state departments, District Magistrates, Collectors, and Superintendents of Police, who attended virtually.

The workshop aimed to equip state and district-level officials from various departments with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively utilize the e-DAR application. The State Unit of NIC Tripura provided a detailed presentation on the application, emphasizing its potential to enhance service delivery and administrative efficiency. Developed in response to Rule 150A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the e-DAR application mandates that investigation officers report accidents to the Claims Tribunal within 48 hours.

The e-DAR system aims to create a comprehensive database that analyzes road accident data to identify trends and implement measures to significantly reduce fatalities. It includes various functionalities for stakeholders, enabling the police to report accidents and generate First Accident Reports (FAR), while motor vehicle inspectors provide accident information and inspection reports. Hospitals can submit victim information and health reports, and the Highways Department contributes data regarding road conditions.

With over 900,000 accident records already in its database, the e-DAR application is poised to adopt a data-driven approach to improve road safety. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will also be released to ensure smooth data access across different departments. This initiative represents a substantial advancement in Tripura’s efforts to enhance road safety and create a safer environment for all road users.
