Agartala, 5th November 2024:  In a strong appeal for justice, the DYFI Udaipur Divisional Committee submitted a deputation to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Udaipur demanding legal action against those responsible for the death of Piyush Debnath, a young man who lost his life in a VIP car accident in Udaipur. The committee also sought adequate financial and other government assistance for the bereaved family. Officials assured the representatives that all necessary steps would be taken.

The tragic incident took place on October 31 around 9 pm, when Piyush Debnath from the Tepania area of Udaipur was hit by a VIP car on the Agartala-Udaipur national highway under Radhakishore Pur police station. The incident has garnered significant public attention.

In their memorandum, the DYFI Udaipur Divisional Committee emphasized that accidents can happen suddenly, but it is a social and humanitarian responsibility to send the injured person to the hospital for treatment. “After the accident, sending the injured person to the hospital for treatment is a social and humanitarian responsibility,” the memorandum stated.

However, it was alleged that the VIP did not take any role in providing medical care to the critically injured Piyush Debnath. “It is alleged that the young man was first hit by the VIP car, but neither the VIP car nor its escort stopped to assist him,” the committee noted. The memorandum further alleged that Piyush was crushed by the wheels of both the escort car and the VIP car and lay on the road for a long time before being taken to the hospital by firemen. He later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The sub-divisional police officer has been urged to conduct a swift investigation into the incident and ensure that adequate financial assistance is provided to Piyush Debnath’s family. The deputation included DYFI Divisional Secretary Shubo Chakraborty, Youth Leader Somraj Chowdhury, Badal Malakar, and Ajit Pal.

A written complaint from Sushmita Goswami Debnath, the wife of the deceased was also handed over along with the memorandum. The complaint mentioned that Piyush’s scooter was first hit by the escort car of the VIP, bearing registration number TR 01 F 0973, before being run over by the VIP car, resulting in his fatal injuries. Sushmita’s complaint identified the VIP as a Lokayukta.

The DYFI has demanded a speedy investigation and legal action against the accused. “VIPs need to exercise restraint while traveling on the road. They are not the only ones who travel on the road; ordinary people do as well,” said the DYFI delegation. “Since the accident happened that day, if Piyush could have been taken to the hospital immediately, he might have survived. But the VIP was not seen standing next to the helpless family,” they added.

The public is now demanding justice for Piyush Debnath and financial assistance for his family, highlighting the need for accountability and responsible behavior from VIPs.
