Agartala, 7th January 2025: A human skeleton was recovered in the deep forest of Kherengjuri No. 3 ward under Laxminagar Gram Panchayat under Churaibari police station on early Tuesday morning.
The grim finding was first reported by Archana Nath, a local resident, who stumbled upon the skeleton while collecting firewood on Monday afternoon. She informed her family later that evening, but the matter did not garner immediate attention.
On Tuesday morning, another local resident, Gunendra Nath, decided to verify Archana’s account. Upon reaching the spot, he found a skull and bones scattered on the ground, with a neck bone hanging from a tree. Shoes were also found at the scene. He promptly alerted other villagers, who gathered at the site before notifying the police.
The Churaibari police arrived swiftly and launched an investigation. Initial reports suggest a potential link to a missing person case from May 16, 2022. Local residents speculate that the skeleton could belong to Ranu Nath, who disappeared from Kherengjuri while staying at his uncle’s house. Ranu’s family home is located near Dharmanagar Kalikapur Jail.
“The identity of the skeleton remains unconfirmed,” a police official stated. “We are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts.”
Residents of the area are anxiously awaiting answers. “We hope the police can unravel the mystery and provide closure to the family if it is indeed Ranu Nath,” said a concerned villager.
The case highlights the importance of vigilance and swift reporting in rural areas. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as they continue their probe.
