Agartala, 26th March 2025:  The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission Office in Agartala observed Bangladesh’s Independence Day on Wednesday with due reverence. The event commemorated the historic declaration of independence made by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 26, 1971, before his arrest by the Pakistani army during the turbulent days of the Liberation War.

High Commissioner Arif Mohammad led the celebrations, hoisting the national flag of Bangladesh and paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War. Speaking to journalists, he reflected on the significance of the day, saying, “The Liberation War began in 1971 when the Bengalis joined a long and determined struggle. Full liberation was achieved on December 16. Today is the day to remember the three million martyrs who laid down their lives for this freedom.”

The High Commissioner also expressed deep gratitude toward the people of Tripura for their solidarity during the war. He remarked, “The people of Tripura stood by Bangladesh with everything during this liberation war. Their contribution should not be forgotten. The people of Bangladesh remain grateful for this invaluable support.”

Concluding the event, Arif Mohammad noted, “The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission is proud to celebrate this historic day on the soil of Tripura.”

The observance underscored the enduring ties between Tripura and Bangladesh, highlighting a shared history of sacrifice and cooperation during the liberation struggle.
