Agartala, 7th May 2025:  In a significant statewide exercise, a civil defense mock drill has been organized today under the directives of the Union Home Ministry and in accordance with the Civil Defense Act, 1968. The drill, aimed at evaluating Tripura’s disaster preparedness and the coordination between various emergency response agencies, is set to take place from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm across the state.

As part of this large-scale simulation, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has announced a temporary suspension of electricity services in Agartala city between 5:30 pm and 5:40 pm to facilitate the exercise. The public has been informed of this measure as part of broader efforts to ensure seamless execution of emergency protocols.

Civil defense volunteers from each district will play an active role in today’s drill, acting as first responders to simulated disasters, including enemy attacks, natural calamities and man-made emergencies. Their tasks will include search and rescue operations, firefighting drills, first aid and medical assistance, and the coordination of emergency alerts.

To signal different phases of the exercise, sirens will be sounded at 4 pm and again at 5:30 pm, marking key moments in the simulation. Residents are urged to remain calm and cooperate fully with authorities.

A revised notification from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) further clarifies that electricity services in Agartala will be shut down for 10 minutes from 5:30 pm to 5:40 pm as a precautionary measure to accommodate drill operations.

Officials emphasize the importance of the exercise in strengthening the state’s disaster management framework. The drill is expected to provide vital insights into emergency response efficiencies, helping authorities refine their disaster preparedness strategies.

Residents are requested to remain vigilant but not alarmed during the drill and to follow official instructions as the state reinforces its commitment to safety and crisis readiness.
