Agartala, 15th May 2025:  Concerns over alleged corruption in public construction projects have surfaced once again as protests halted work on Debipur Class XII School, Kamalasagar today. The Kamalasagar Left Youth Organization Local Committee has accused contractor Sujit Shukla Das and seven subcontractors of engaging in substandard construction.

Sources informed that the Education Department allocated Rs 93 lakh for the construction of four two-story rooms at the school. While Shukla Das secured the contract, the actual work was reportedly handed over to seven subcontractors, resulting in poor construction quality from the outset. Initial complaints by students regarding the condition of the building were overlooked, but outrage grew when local youth leaders inspected the site and found serious structural flaws.

Leaders from the Left Youth Organization including Sub-Divisional Secretary Hiranmoy Narayan Debnath, Kamalasagar Local Secretary Rajesh Datta, GMP leader Madhu Debbarma and student organization leader Dipankar Das condemned the project’s poor execution.

They alleged that the building’s walls collapse under slight pressure, raising serious concerns about student safety. Fearing an imminent disaster, they demanded immediate intervention and a scientific test of the newly constructed roof.

In response, School Management Committee Chairman Anil Shiv visited the site and, shocked by the condition of the building, ordered construction to be halted.

This incident follows similar allegations against contractor Mithun Shil regarding drainage work in Madhupur. Observers note that repeated complaints highlight an ongoing pattern of questionable dealings in public projects, where funds are allegedly misused, leading to compromised infrastructure.

Despite protests, there is no confirmation yet on whether construction will be permanently halted or whether authorities will approve a complete reconstruction. The youth leaders continue to demand an independent evaluation of the site and accountability for those responsible.
