Agartala, 30th June 2026: Retirement brought an end to official duties for many, but for Pratima Pal, a retired teacher from Bishalgarh subdivision, it marked the beginning of a lifelong mission to serve students. Even after completing 14 years of retirement, she continues to teach regularly at school without taking any payment, driven only by her passion for education.
A former teacher of PM Shri Baidyadighi Higher Secondary School, Pratima Pal retired from government service in 2012 after dedicating several decades to teaching. However, she did not distance herself from the classroom. The very next day after retirement, she returned to the school and resumed teaching voluntarily.
Since then, she has continued her routine of guiding students every day, offering her knowledge and experience free of cost. By June 29, 2026, she completed 14 years of uninterrupted voluntary teaching, setting an inspiring example of dedication and commitment towards education.
Pratima Pal started her teaching career in 1980 as a Graduate Teacher at Shalgara Town Girls’ High School. Over the years, she played a significant role in shaping the lives of countless students before retiring from PM Shri Baidyadighi Higher Secondary School.
Speaking about her continued service, she said, “Teaching has always been a part of my life. I feel happy when I can help students learn and progress. As long as I remain physically capable, I will continue teaching without expecting anything in return.”
The school authorities have also praised her extraordinary dedication. Teacher-in-Charge Uttam Chakraborty said that her commitment reflects the true spirit of a teacher.
“Her decision to continue teaching voluntarily for so many years after retirement is an inspiration for everyone. Her dedication towards students and education is truly remarkable,” he said.
Students of the school also expressed their respect and affection for her, describing her as a teacher who explains difficult lessons with patience and care.
Pratima Pal’s journey stands as a reminder that a teacher’s role does not end with retirement. Her selfless contribution to education continues to inspire students, teachers, and society alike.
