Agartala, 30th June 2026: The Tripura government has reaffirmed its focus on journalist welfare through a set of financial support measures introduced after 2018, highlighting continued expansion of benefits under its existing schemes.
A major revision has been made under the “Tripura Journalist Honour Pension Scheme,” where the monthly pension for eligible retired journalists has been substantially raised from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000. Alongside this, the state has also introduced the “Tripura Journalist Family Security Pension Scheme,” which provides ₹5,000 per month to the dependents of deceased journalists.
In 2025, the government updated the guidelines of these schemes to make the application and approval process smoother and more accessible. As part of recent approvals, pensions have been sanctioned for five additional retired journalists, taking the total number of beneficiaries under the honour pension scheme to 13.
Similarly, under the family security initiative, two more families of deceased journalists have been included, increasing the total number of beneficiaries to seven.The Journalist Welfare Fund has also extended medical financial assistance to four journalists to help cover healthcare-related expenses.
Overall, the state government stated that these steps reflect its ongoing commitment to improving financial security and social support for journalists and their families in Tripura.
