A&FW Dept: Wage of Rs 385 per day for seasonal or contractual workers : Ratan Lal Nath

Agartala, April 24, 2023: Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday announced that the department had initiated decision to pay Rs 385 per day to all the seasonal and contractual workers working under Agriculture and Horticulture departments.

Speaking to media personnel at Civil Secretariat here on Monday evening, Nath said “After assuming charge of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department, I have visited Horticulture Research Centre at Nagicherra on April 20 last. There are farm workers comprising of regular Group-D workers, permanent labourers and part-time workers. Apart from them, there are 1321 seasonal or contractual workers comprising of 715 in Agriculture department and 606 in Horticultyre department.”

Citing their toil, minister said “These seasonal or contractual workers work for 20 to 25 days as per the necessity. They are being paid on voucher of the bills. I felt that the wages they get are very less, but they work hard. Somewhere they were paid Rs 226, somewhere Rs 323, Rs 300 and Rs 340 while Rs 212 is paid at maximum places. Thereafter, I held meeting with department’s secretary and director and decided to pay Rs 383 per day for all seasonal and contractual workers. This decision will be implemented from April 01, 2023.”

At present, there are 44 orchards under 17 offices of the Horiculture department while 54 offices are their under Agriculture department and 15 Agri farms across the state.
