Agartala, 1st November 2025:  Tripura’s law and order situation has come under sharp focus after two security personnel were brutally attacked in Kumarghat, Unakoti district, early Friday.

According to police, TSR jawan Dipak Reang and SPO Ujjwal Debnath were assaulted by three allegedly intoxicated youths near the PWD Dak Bungalow around 2 AM. The attackers, riding a motorcycle, reportedly abused the patrolling officers and then launched a violent assault, leaving both seriously injured. Debnath suffered a severe head injury, while Reang managed to alert Kumarghat police, leading to their swift rescue.

Police later arrested the accused Parashar Deb, Rajdeep Deb and Kunal Shil and seized their motorcycle. A suo motu case was filed, and the trio has been remanded to judicial custody.

The attack has triggered widespread public and political outrage, with many questioning the administration’s ability to maintain order. The incident comes close on the heels of a similar assault in Belonia, where accused individuals were quickly granted bail, fueling fears of growing impunity.

Unconfirmed reports hint at the accused’s alleged political connections, raising concerns over possible interference. Observers warn that repeated attacks on police personnel could undermine public confidence in the state’s law enforcement system.
