Agartala, 1st March 2025:  The Customs and BSF successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 100 kg of ganja through the state border area yesterday evening. The joint operation led to the arrest of three youths near Ranibazar Lilgarh Tea Garden in Sabroom. Authorities also seized two cars, mobile phones, and cash from the accused.

Customs Superintendent Albin Singh stated, “Yesterday morning, we received information from secret sources about a plan to smuggle ganja through the Sabroom border. A joint team of Customs and BSF then conducted surveillance in the Chotokhil area.”

In the evening, the team intercepted a Bolero and a Swift Dzire car, leading to the discovery of 100 kg of ganja during the search. The arrested youths are identified as Bapi Nam and Manav Saha from Sonamura, and Abhijit Das from Melaghar. Additionally, three expensive iPhones, an Android phone, and Rs 1,49,000 in cash were recovered from them. Reports indicate that another accomplice managed to escape during the operation, and an investigation is underway to apprehend him.

Initial interrogation has revealed potential links to two other individuals from Sabroom, prompting the Customs Department to initiate further investigations. It is believed that the arrested individuals could be part of a larger drug trafficking network.

Despite multiple anti-drug operations by the state administration and police, the drug trade persists, posing a significant concern for the youth of the state. The three arrested individuals are scheduled to be produced in court tomorrow. The incident has caused a stir in the area, with experts calling for enhanced security measures in the border regions.
