Agartala, 8th August 2024: In a remarkable display of cross-border cooperation and swift action, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully brought 17 Indian workers back to safety after they were stranded in violence-hit Bangladesh.
BSF Official said that the workers, employed by AFCONS Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, were engaged in the construction of a 52 km stretch of a four-lane road from Akhaura to Kishoreganj.
“When unrest erupted in Bangladesh, they found themselves trapped at their camp in Ramrail. On the evening of August 7th, Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, IPS, Inspector General of the Tripura Frontier BSF, received an urgent call for help. The stranded workers were on their way to the Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP) on the Bangladesh side and needed assistance for a safe passage back to India”, said a BSF Personnel.
In response, the BSF immediately established contact with the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) at the Nodal Officer level. The two forces then launched a well-coordinated operation, demonstrating exceptional synergy. The BGB ensured the workers’ safe movement up to the ICP, while also facilitating customs and immigration clearance late into the night.
Once the formalities were completed, the 17 workers were handed over to the BSF at the ICP Agartala. The workers expressed their profound gratitude, acknowledging the BSF as their savior during a time of crisis.
This operation stands as a testament to the strong cooperation between India and Bangladesh, and the unwavering commitment of the BSF to protect Indian nationals, even in the most challenging circumstances.
