Chaitra Mela and Pahela Baisakh: Banking services disrupted at Punjab National Bank Teliamura Branch

Agartala, 10th April 2024:   The banking services at the Punjab National Bank (PNB) Teliamura branch have been severely impacted due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The branch has declared a self-imposed shutdown, causing inconvenience to customers, especially affecting the Chaitra market and the upcoming ‘Pahela Boishakh’ fair.

A white paper statement affixed to the main gate of the PNB Teliamura branch announced the closure, catching customers off guard. While there are no official government holidays on April 10, the branch’s senior manager has called for a self-declared holiday, citing the elections as the reason.

This unilateral decision has left customers frustrated, as other banks in the area remain operational. Complaints have poured in from disgruntled customers who had planned to conduct financial transactions but found the branch closed in light of the elections.

With Thursday being declared a self-imposed closure and Friday marking the Eid holiday, followed by Saturday and Sunday already designated as weekends, customers are facing a prolonged disruption in banking services. This situation has created a significant financial crisis for many, especially impacting senior citizens who rely on the bank’s services, particularly during festive occasions like ‘Pahela Boishakh’.

As customers left disappointed after being unable to access banking services, concerns are growing about the economic repercussions of the sudden closure, particularly during a time when financial transactions are expected to be high.
