Chief Justice of Tripura inaugurated Deeksharambh 2026 at NLU Tripura

Agartala, 17th August 2026 :   The National Law University, Tripura welcomed its fourth batch of students with the two-day Deeksharambh Programme on 16–17 August 2026, marking the beginning of a new academic journey. The programme was graced by Justice M. S. Ramachandra Rao, Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura and Chancellor, NLU Tripura, as Chief Guest; Justice S. D. Purkayastha, Judge, High Court of Tripura, as Guest of Eminence; and Ratan Datta, Chairperson, State Bar Council, as Guest of Honour. In his welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Founding Vice-Chancellor, NLU Tripura, traced the University’s journey since its inception and highlighted its remarkable growth, emerging national character and unwavering commitment to nurturing competent, ethical and socially responsible legal professionals.

Addressing the newly admitted students, Hon’bleJustice M.S. Ramachandra Rao while appreciating university administration for making its best efforts to provide quality legal education assured the University of his full support in its continued development and encouraged the faculty and students to give their best and work towards building strong professional and institutional bonds.He also assured that within one year university will get fully functional Academic-Administrative Blocks and Hostels for Boys and Girls.

Justice S.D. Purkayastha, in his address, inspired the students to consistently strive for excellence. He emphasised that there are no shortcuts to success and no substitute for hard work, urging the young law students to remain committed, disciplined and dedicated to their goals.Mr. Ratan Datta also addressed the gathering and shared his thoughts with the newly admitted students, encouraging them to make the best use of their time at the University and develop themselves as responsible members of the legal profession.

NLU Tripura welcomed students admitted from various States across the country, reflecting the University’s growing national character and reach. NLU Tripura continues to strengthen its position as a premier institution for legal education in the North-Eastern region. The two-day programme provided the newly admitted students with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the University’s academic environment, faculty members, institutional structures and student activities, marking the beginning of their journey at NLU Tripura. Special sessions were organised to sensitise students about the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013, and the functioning of the University’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), as well as to raise awareness about drug addiction and mental health-related concerns. On this occasion University also released its report entitled “Empowering Indigenous Communities: An Analysis of Social Welfare Schemes in Tripura for Scheduled Tribes,” and Annual Reports of Legal Aid Committee and Kautilya Society.
