Agartala, 23rd February 2024: In a powerful demonstration of solidarity, the Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) spearheaded a protest on Friday, converging in front of the Labor Commissioner’s office to advocate for the 12-point demands of working women. The event, marked by a protest march through the city, culminated in a peaceful sit-in (dharna) at the office of the Commissioner of the Labor Department.

Addressing the crowd, CITU leader Manik Dey shed light on the pervasive issues faced by women workers, emphasizing the alleged mistreatment prevailing in workplaces. Dey specifically highlighted the plight of Anganwari workers and Asha workers, who have reportedly faced retrenchment and prolonged salary deprivation.

Dey articulated the broader concerns encapsulated in the protest program, citing the urgent need to address issues such as the prevention of price increases, workplace retrenchment, and the rampant abuse of women. The protest sought to draw attention to the multifaceted challenges confronting workers and women in various sectors.

The demonstration resonated with a diverse array of issues affecting laborers and women across the city. Participants marched through the streets, making their voices heard and demanding justice for those grappling with workplace challenges.
