Agartala, 1st September 2025; Tension gripped IGM Hospital today after a clash broke out during the handover of cleaning services to a new agency. The unrest began when the newly appointed company refused to retain the previous cleaning staff, whose contract expired yesterday.
Reports alleged that the new company demanded Rs 590 as a “registration fee” from the outgoing workers, sparking anger and protests. Members of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) arrived at the hospital to extend support to the displaced employees.
Matters turned violent when supervisors of the new agency allegedly attacked both the protesting workers and union leaders inside the hospital premises. The sudden assault led to chaos in the hospital corridors, forcing police personnel from West Police Station to rush to the scene.
Three people were injured in the scuffle and were shifted to GB Hospital for medical attention. Police intervention helped restore order, though a tense atmosphere prevailed at IGM Hospital.
Authorities have assured that the incident will be investigated, and steps are likely to be taken to address the grievances of the affected workers.
