Agartala, 29th June 2025 :  In a disturbing incident, a Class 9 student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Lal Tila, Khowai, fled the school premises on Saturday evening to escape alleged ragging by senior students.

The student, who later returned to his home in Sipaihao under Khowai police station, told media persons that he was being repeatedly harassed by Class 10 students who forced him to do various chores. According to him, refusal to comply led to increased ragging, making his daily life unbearable.“The seniors make me do all kinds of work. If I refuse, they harass me. The ragging has been increasing every day,” he said.

Following his disappearance, the school authorities filed a missing diary with the Khowai police station. The student was traced soon after and reunited with his family.Local sources and residents have alleged that such incidents are not isolated and that ragging has become a recurring problem in Khowai’s Jawahar Navodaya School. The school has previously drawn criticism for similar incidents.

Moreover, serious allegations have surfaced against the school principal, Arpita Shukla, for allegedly ignoring repeated complaints related to ragging. Locals claim that despite being informed, the principal has failed to take concrete action to address the situation. The incident has sparked concern among parents and guardians in the region, prompting calls for an immediate inquiry and stronger anti-ragging measures in residential schools.
