Agartala, 30th May 2025: In response to continuous heavy rainfall, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Friday has directed the State Disaster Management Authority to stay on high alert and ensure full preparedness as river levels continue to rise, posing a threat to low-lying areas.
Addressing the media, Dr. Saha said, “I have already spoken with the Disaster Management Authority, and we will convene a formal meeting tomorrow. I have instructed them to remain extremely vigilant, and they are actively working on the ground.”
As per the latest India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin, Sepahijala district recorded the heaviest rainfall, with Sonamura, Bishramganj, and Mohanbhog receiving around 21 cm of rain. In West Tripura, Agartala reported 13.6 cm of rainfall. Rising water levels in the Haora River have begun spilling into nearby villages around Agartala, prompting local administration to take immediate action. West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar visited the affected zones to assess the situation.
The IMD has issued a Red Alert for North Tripura and Unakoti districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain. An Orange Alert remains in effect across the rest of the state, warning of squally winds with speeds reaching 40–50 kmph, along with continued downpours.Major rivers — including Haora, Gomati, Khowai, and Muhuri — are currently flowing above their normal or warning levels, increasing the risk of flooding. In response, the Tripura Disaster Management Authority has deployed emergency resources, including boats, life jackets, and other rescue equipment, to vulnerable areas.
Several localities have also reported incidents of uprooted trees and damaged power lines as the state continues to face severe weather conditions.
