Agartala, February 12: A temple in Dharmanagar was robbed of two donation boxes on Sunday night, causing a stir among the devotees and locals. The police arrived at the scene on Monday morning and launched an investigation into the theft.

The CCTV footage of the temple revealed that the culprit was a young man named Raj Pal, who lived nearby. The locals recognized him and informed the police, who arrested him and took him to the Dharmanagar police station.

Raj Pal confessed that he had broken the donation boxes and stolen 500 rupees from them. However, the temple authorities claimed that the boxes contained between 3,000 and 5,000 rupees, which were collected from the worshippers every week.

Raj Pal said that he resorted to theft due to his financial difficulties. He had returned from Bangalore, where he had worked at a sound system company, and was currently unemployed. The police are further interrogating him and verifying his claims.
