Agartala Jan 30: In yet another major development that has hit the ruling BJP ahead of crucial assembly elections, BJP MLA from Krishnapur (No-29) tribal reserve assembly constituency Dr Atul Debbarma on Monday resigned his assembly seat.

He tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to the speaker Ratan Chakraborty. He did not cite any reason for his resignation but merely said “I am submitting my resignation consciously and in sound mind” and requested the speaker to accept the same with immediate effect.

Dr Atul Debbama, a renowned doctor of AIIMS , Delhi, had joined politics prior to the 2018 assembly elections 2018 and became an MLA after winning the election from the tribal reserve Krishnapur (No-29) assembly constituency.

But he was dropped as a candidate this time when the BJP central leadership announced the party’s list of nominations for the February 16 assembly polls on January 28 along with seven other MLAs.

Deeply shocked at the treatment meted out to him by the state and central BJP leadership, Dr Atul Debbarma severed all his ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).Later, in another letter addressed to the state president of the party, Dr Atul Debbarma also resigned from Bharatiya Janata Party. He wrote, “I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party and all other posts and responsibilities of the party with immediate effect”.
