Agartala, 22nd June 2026: Anger over a prolonged drinking water crisis erupted in Lalchhari Parsi Para under Ambassa, where residents staged a protest demanding the immediate start of regular water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Led by affected families, villagers accused the concerned authorities of failing to provide basic services despite the completion of water infrastructure in the area.
The protesting residents alleged that pipelines and water supply points were installed more than a year ago, but the system has remained non-functional, leaving around 30 families without access to regular drinking water. They demanded a thorough investigation into the delay and sought accountability from the officials responsible for the failure.
According to local residents, the project, which was launched with significant government expenditure, has failed to benefit the people on the ground. They questioned why water supply has not started even after the completion of the necessary infrastructure.
“This is not just a technical problem. The administration must find out why the supply has not begun even after so much time and take action against those responsible,” a resident told reporters.
Villagers said women, children, and elderly people are facing the worst hardships as they are forced to travel long distances every day to collect water from alternative sources.
The residents warned that if immediate steps are not taken to restore water supply, they will launch a larger democratic movement demanding a permanent solution to the crisis. They urged the administration to move beyond promises and ensure that the Jal Jeevan Mission reaches its intended beneficiaries.
