Agartala, 19th December 2024: The Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) has alleged that the state is in the grip of terror under the current coalition government. Representatives of the organization met in a deputation at the Tuimadhu Zonal Office of the Krishnapur Assembly constituency on Thursday, demanding action on seven key issues.
The procession began in front of the Chakmaghat Mukta Mancha and proceeded to the Sub-Zonal Office, where a meeting was held. Present at the meeting were GMP Central Committee President Naresh Jamatia, GMP Central Council Member Hemanta Kumar Jamatia, GMP Teliamura Sub-division Secretary Arun Debbarma, and CPIM Teliamura Sub-division Secretary Subhash Nath. A delegation of five members, including Dhananjay Debbarma, Anjali Debbarma, Ratan Kishore Jamatia, Chandrakanta Debbarma and Arun Debbarma handed over a copy of the seven-point demand to Sub-Zonal Officer Kamal Debbarma.
Former minister Naresh Jamatia addressed journalists, alleging that a reign of terror has prevailed in the state since the formation of the coalition government. “The democratic rights of the people are being killed,” he stated. Jamatia emphasized the need for people to speak up and understand their rights, lamenting the current lack of such a situation. “To restore the democratic rights of the people, a convention was held in various zonal and sub-zonal areas at the initiative of the GMP state committee. From this convention, it was decided that deputations will be given in various sub-zonal areas to protect the rights of the people and fulfill their demands,” he explained.
The seven-point demand includes the implementation of the 125th amendment to the constitution in the ADC area, the prompt election of the village committee as promised, and the provision of 200 days of work per year, among other demands.
