Agartala, 13th March 2026:   Tripura has emerged as a key investment destination, attracting more than 120 investors who signed 87 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth around Rs 3,800 crore across sectors including education, tourism, healthcare, and information technology. This was highlighted by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu during the inaugural day of the 9th session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly on Friday.

Governor Nallu noted that the state hosted the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2025, which successfully showcased Tripura’s investment potential and led to significant commitments from investors. He also emphasized the state government’s initiatives such as the Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy, 2025, aimed at enhancing market and credit access for women entrepreneurs, and the Tripura Jan Vishwas Act, promoting trust-based governance. The Tripura Pavilion at the 44th India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2025 received the Excellence Award, reflecting the state’s growing recognition on the national stage.

Highlighting Tripura’s strong fiscal performance, the governor reported robust tax collections in 2025–26 up to October, with GST at Rs 994.23 crore, VAT at Rs 281.40 crore, Excise Duty at Rs 271.48 crore, and Professional Tax at Rs 26.85 crore. These figures, he noted, indicate healthy economic activity and compliance within the state.

Governor Nallu connected Tripura’s progress with the larger national context, pointing to milestones such as the 2025 Prayag Maha Kumbh Mela, Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, and the Indian women’s cricket team winning the Women’s ODI World Cup as symbols of national unity, security, and empowerment.

The governor outlined Tripura’s ambitious development plans, positioning the state as a growth engine in Northeast India. He cited the Business Conclave as a platform to highlight opportunities in IT, tourism, healthcare, education, rubber, bamboo, agar, and food processing. Improvements at Mata Tripura Sundari Temple have strengthened its status as a spiritual tourism hub. Tripura also achieved national recognition for its Ease of Doing Business reforms, topping NITI Aayog and DPIIT rankings, and being showcased as a best practice example in deregulation and compliance reduction at the Cabinet Secretariat.

In education, Tripura reached a historic milestone by becoming a fully literate state on 23rd June 2025, with a literacy rate of 95.6% under the ULLAS Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, surpassing national benchmarks and aligning with the National Education Policy 2020. The state also gained accolades in renewable energy, receiving the Best Performing State award under PM-KUSUM for installing the highest number of solar pumps.

Governor Nallu reaffirmed the government’s focus on tribal welfare and higher education. Plans are underway to upgrade the Women’s College into a university, convert the Tripura Institute of Technology into a state technical university, establish three new Tripura Competitive Examination Centres, and launch the Mata Tripura Sundari Open University in Udaipur.

Infrastructure and energy development were also highlighted. Tripura maintains a road network of 10,617 km, including state highways, district roads, urban roads, and rural roads, ensuring enhanced connectivity. Power access has been expanded, with electrification of 11,692 households of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) among Reang families, 2,807 Scheduled Tribe households, and 512 public places. The state has secured Rs 2,27,500 lakh from the Asian Development Bank for the Tripura Power Distribution Strengthening, Generation and Efficiency Project, with 90% of distribution work completed, alongside Rs 80,300 lakh sanctioned under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, currently 65% implemented.

Governor Nallu concluded that Tripura is steadily emerging as a model of inclusive growth, sustainable development, and investment-friendly governance in India’s Northeast.
