Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu highlights agriculture’s crucial role in India’s economy at North Eastern Regional Conference

Agartala, 26th September 2024:   In a significant address at the North Eastern Regional Conference of the Indian Phytopathological Society (IPS) and the National Conference of the Academy for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture in India’s economy and society.

The event was held at College of Agriculture, Lembucherra focused on “Advances in Innovative Technologies and Plant Health Management Strategies in Climate Resilient Agriculture (AITPCRA-2024).”

While inaugurating the conference, Governor Nallu highlighted the government’s commitment to the agricultural sector. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is implementing various schemes for the welfare of agriculture and farmers,” he stated. He urged the North Eastern states to adopt advanced agricultural technologies to boost crop production. “The use of advanced technology can significantly increase crop yields. Our farmers need more training to harness these technologies effectively,” he added.

The two-day conference, organized by College of Agriculture in collaboration with the Indian Phytopathological Society, New Delhi, and the Academy for Advancement of Agricultural Science, Kalyani, West Bengal, along with the Directorate of Extension Education, Imphal, brought together agricultural scientists and experts from across the country.

Governor Nallu also stressed the importance of encouraging farmers in Tripura to focus on spice and turmeric production. “Farmers of Tripura should be encouraged more in agricultural production of spices and turmeric,” he said, expressing hope that the conference would lead to significant advancements in agricultural practices.

Before the formal commencement of the program, Governor Nallu visited the exhibition pavilions of NERAMAC, NABARD, and Agricultural University. He also released a Scientific Abstract and a book titled “Serial Diseases: Past, Present, and Future Prospects.”

Prominent figures such as BCKV Vice-Chancellor Professor Gautam Saha, Academy for Advancement of Agricultural Science President Professor Dharanidhar Patra, Indian Phytopathological Society Secretary Dr. Kajal Kumar Biswas, and NABARD General Manager Anil S. addressed the gathering. The welcome speech was delivered by the Principal of the Agricultural University, Debashis Sen.

The event also saw the felicitation of agricultural scientists from various states, recognizing their contributions to the field. Governor Nannu concluded his speech by expressing his best wishes for the success of the conference, hoping that the agricultural scientists would utilize their research for the betterment of agriculture and farmers.
