Agartala, 2nd July 2024: A man was allegedly beaten to death by his own family members at their home in Nazarpura, a border village beyond the tarred fence in Buxnagar, Tripura’s Sipahizla district. The victim has been identified as Monir Hossain (58).
According to reports, Monir Hossain was severely assaulted by his wife, Maya Akhtar, his elder son, Yasin Mia, and his daughter-in-law, Sion Mia, on June 27. The motive behind the attack appears to be an illicit relationship between Yasin Mia’s wife and her daughter’s son-in-law, Sion Mia. When Yasin Mia objected to this relationship, he was allegedly beaten to death.
Sion Mia, the girl’s son-in-law, reportedly struck Monir Hossain on the head with the intention of killing him. After the assault, Sion Mia fled to Bangladesh, leaving Monir Hossain to die at home. Monir’s younger son, Mohsin Hossain, who was outside the house during the incident, later found his father in a bloody state and rushed him to Buxnagar Primary Health Center with the assistance of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Gate No. 151. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, Monir Hossain was referred to GB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday afternoon.
The local community is in mourning over this tragic loss. Monir Hossain, who was once involved in various border businesses and owned a substantial amount of money, had reportedly fallen on hard times in recent years. Allegations of an illegal relationship involving his wife and the daughter’s son-in-law may have led to the fatal attack. The Kalamchoura police station is currently investigating the case.
