Agartala, 19th November 2025:   Opposition Leader and CPI(M) Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury has accused the state government of incompetence and administrative inaction, claiming that traders in Santirbazar have suffered severe losses due to recent unrest.

During a visit to the market under Kamalpur subdivision, Chaudhury met with affected shopkeepers and local residents. He was accompanied by state committee member Sudhan Das, secretariat members Ratan Das and Radha Charan Debbarma, and Dhalai district secretary Anjan Das.

The violence stems from the bandh called on October 23 by the Tipra Civil Society. Supporters allegedly looted shops, assaulted traders, set vehicles on fire, and vandalized numerous establishments. The attacks left many indigenous and local business owners devastated.

Speaking to media personnel here, Chaudhury alleged that Tipra Motha activists unleashed chaos under the cover of the bandh, while BJP workers later carried out retaliatory attacks. He claimed both parties were attempting to sow divisions among tribal communities in the state, leading to the Santirbazar incident.

Chaudhury further charged that the administration failed to act against lawbreakers from the outset, effectively siding with the agitators. “Government apathy and administrative paralysis have directly caused the suffering of traders,” he said.

Although the state later announced financial aid for victims, Chaudhury argued that the assistance was insufficient to restore normal life. He urged the government to provide additional compensation to help affected families recover from the losses.
