Agartala, 19th May 2025: Kathalia Bari ADC Village in Hrishyamukh Block has been grappling with deteriorating infrastructure for nearly a decade, with residents alleging that even light rainfall turns roads into impassable mud. Frustrated by the lack of renovation, villagers are now questioning the role of their elected representatives in addressing socio-economic development.
Locals say the roads have remained in poor condition for close to ten years, severely impacting daily life. “We are struggling not only with bad roads but also with a crisis in drinking water, education, and healthcare. The leaders seem indifferent to our problems,” said a resident of the village.
The primary road connecting Kathalia Bari ADC Village to Haripur Bazar in Hrishyamukh Block and Kalacherra in Sabroom sub-division is reportedly in a state of disrepair. “We depend on this road to reach the Hrishyamukh Block headquarters in Belonia for essential work, but travel has become extremely difficult due to neglect. Whenever it rains, the road turns into sludge,” another resident lamented.
The worsening condition of the roads has also impacted emergency services, with complaints that ambulances, fire engines, and electric vehicles struggle to navigate the area. “In critical situations, delay in transport can cost lives,” said another villager. “How long do we have to endure this?” he asked.
Before the last Autonomous District Council elections, Tipra Motha Party candidate Debajit Tripura had promised improvements to infrastructure. However, villagers now express disappointment, alleging that the elected MDC has been unresponsive. “During the campaign, he assured us of development, but after winning, he doesn’t even check if we are facing problems. We now realize we made a mistake,” a local resident claimed.
Beyond road conditions, residents also raise concerns about the lack of clean drinking water. “If basic necessities like roads and water remain neglected, how can we expect socio-economic progress?” asked another villager.
Frustrated by inaction, the people of Kathalia Bari ADC Village are urging local leaders and the district council to address their grievances, calling for immediate infrastructure improvements to enhance their living standards.
