Agartala, 19th May 2025:  Melaghar Khas Chowmuhani Ghoshpara is witnessing growing unrest over allegations of corruption related to the Bank Bihari Anganwadi Kendra, which has remained closed for the past three months. Essential services, including mid-day meals and nutritional support for pregnant women, have reportedly come to a halt, sparking concerns about administrative negligence.

Local residents claim that the center has been completely shut since April 3, though the mid-day meal service had already stopped in March. Allegations of nepotism in the appointment of helpers and irregularities in the distribution of food items meant for pregnant women and children have fueled discontent. The landowner family of the center has accused officials of appointing outsiders as helpers while disregarding local candidates. “Transparency was not maintained during the appointment process,” one family member asserted.

Moreover, complaints have surfaced about the adverse impact on families relying on the center’s services. In response to mounting frustrations, locals are demanding the removal of Anganwadi worker Rehana Begum and the appointed helper. A local-level restriction has already been imposed on their entry into the center.

Addressing the allegations, Rehana Begum stated, “I have informed the higher officials of the department about this problem many times. But no effective action has been taken. Despite waiting for a long time, no solution has been found.”

Despite the growing agitation, authorities have yet to intervene. Residents warn that if a prompt investigation and resolution are not undertaken, they will escalate their protests. With tensions running high, the community awaits a response from the administration.
