Khowai Student’s future at Stake Due to Negligence of Derozio Mission School

Agartala, 2nd March 2025:  In a shocking case of administrative negligence, a student’s future has been jeopardized by the authorities of Derozio Mission School in Khowai Jambura. A student named Bapan Deb, the only child of a poor family, has lost a crucial academic year due to an error in his registration for the CBSE-run secondary examination.

Bapan, a resident of Laltila in the Ramchandraghat assembly constituency, arrived at Jahar Navodaya Vidyalaya on Friday to appear for his CBSE Hindi examination. However, upon reaching the examination hall, he was devastated to learn that Hindi was not his subject. As a student of the Bengali department, he was not supposed to take the Hindi exam, yet his registration reflected otherwise.

The news came as a severe blow to Bapan, who returned home in distress. His parents, who had taken a loan to pay the Rs. 60,000 admission fee for Derozio Mission School just five months ago, were left heartbroken. According to Bapan’s mother, he had always studied in the Bengali medium and was unaware of the discrepancy until the day of the exam.

In an attempt to seek clarification, Bapan and his family rushed to Derozio Mission School, located 8 kilometers away from their home. However, the school authorities completely dismissed any responsibility, stating that Hindi was registered as his subject and that all verification had been done in their presence.

The family alleges that the school authorities admitted Bapan in exchange for a hefty sum without proper verification, leading to this unfortunate consequence. This is not the first time such accusations have been raised against Derozio Mission School, with many claiming that the institution prioritizes financial gains over students’ academic futures.

Education enthusiasts and local residents are stunned by this incident, demanding strict action against the school’s mismanagement. The case highlights the urgent need for accountability in private educational institutions to prevent such injustices in the future.

Meanwhile, the devastated family now faces an uphill battle to ensure that Bapan does not lose an entire year due to no fault of his own.
