Agartala, 2nd March 2025: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 47 Ambassa Mandal organized a large-scale joining meeting on Sunday afternoon, marking a significant political shift in the region. Separate joining meetings were conducted at two different locations, witnessing the defection of numerous voters from rival parties.
The first joining meeting took place at booth number 48 under the Balaram Village Committee, where 27 voters from eight families severed ties with the Tipra Motha party to embrace the BJP. Meanwhile, the second meeting was held at booth number 26 under the Kamala Cha Village Committee in the Garu Basti area, where 70 voters from 22 families defected from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Tipra Motha to join the BJP.
The joining events saw the presence of prominent BJP leaders, including Dhalai District Committee President Patiram Tripura, 47 Ambassa Mandal President Ajay Adhikari, District Committee Secretary Lalfir Halam, and BJP leaders Jhantu Sarkar and Fani Halam. The new members were formally inducted into the party with the symbolic handover of the BJP flag.
Addressing the gathering, Mandal President Ajay Adhikari highlighted the lack of development in tribal areas under the previous government. He emphasized that the BJP government is committed to bringing progress and prosperity to the region.
District President Patiram Tripura also criticized the previous Left government, stating that the tribal communities were misled and kept away from developmental initiatives for years. He asserted that the BJP-led state government has taken proactive steps to uplift the ADC areas, ensuring access to essential amenities such as roads, drinking water, and electricity.
“The state government is committed to working for the betterment of tribals. A new degree college is also set to be established in Ambasa to enhance educational opportunities for students in the subdivision,” stated Patiram Tripura.
During the meeting, local residents raised concerns about the need for an overbridge over the railway line in their area for smoother transportation and a quicker resolution to their drinking water issues. Responding to their plea, the District President assured them that he would escalate their demands to the Chief Minister and relevant higher authorities.
