Agartala, 5th August 2026 : The Higher Education Department on Wednesday organised a unique “Higher Education Dialogue” at the State Guest House, Sonartori, bringing together student representatives and senior government officials to discuss the future of higher education in Tripura.
Addressing the interactive session, Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman described the initiative as a landmark step, saying it was the first time students had been invited to directly share their concerns and suggestions with the government. Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma also attended the programme.
The Minister said the discussion was aimed at identifying challenges in higher education and framing practical solutions through collaborative policymaking. He stressed that colleges should become centres of innovation, skill development and nation-building rather than merely institutions for awarding degrees.
Students were encouraged to express their views on improving academic standards, expanding employment-oriented education, addressing infrastructure and administrative issues, and transforming colleges into model institutions. The dialogue also explored strategies to increase enrolment in higher education by 50 percent by 2030, in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Barman said the government would carefully examine the recommendations emerging from the discussion and incorporate them into future policies. He added that similar consultations with teachers, educationists and other stakeholders would be held to strengthen Tripura’s higher education system and help realise the state’s goal of becoming an education hub.
