Agartala, 18th July 2024: An alleged robbery attempt at the Singichhara sub-post office in Khowai was thwarted by vigilant local residents on Thursday. The incident took place around 11:30 AM, involved a youth named Ratan Ghatual (25), who reportedly tried to extort money from a female postal worker.
According to the postal worker, Ghatual entered the post office under the pretense of inquiring about an LPG gas connection. When informed that the facility was not a gas agency but a sub-post office, Ghatual allegedly attempted to snatch the savings money the worker was counting. Her cries for help alerted nearby residents and passers-by, who quickly intervened, apprehending Ghatual and turning him over to the police.
A formal complaint was lodged against Ghatual, leading to his arrest on charges of attempted robbery. The swift action by the local community and the subsequent police response underscore the collective effort to maintain safety and order in the area.
Police officials confirmed the arrest and are continuing their investigation into the incident. The female postal worker was unharmed.
