Agartala, 12th March 2025: The residents of Naliabari, under the Khowai Tula Shikhar block, have raised their voices once again, demanding urgent repair of the main road and the dilapidated Belly Bridge in the area. Despite repeated complaints and promises from authorities, no concrete steps have been taken to address the poor condition of the road, causing immense inconvenience to the locals.
According to the residents, the road was initially built during the Mandate period with brick sealing, but it has not seen any renovation for years. Frustrated with administrative inaction, the locals had staged a road blockade six months ago, compelling officials to visit the site and assure them of immediate repairs. However, the promises remain unfulfilled, and with the monsoon season approaching, residents fear the situation will worsen.
A passerby from the area shared his concerns, stating that despite informing several administrative officials about the poor state of the road, no efforts have been made to initiate repair work. The road’s deteriorating condition has also discouraged vehicles carrying goods from using the route, making it difficult for residents to transport essential items.
Adding to the woes, the Belly Bridge near Champa Haor Bazar has developed large holes in its structure, posing a serious risk of accidents, especially at night. The locals fear that without immediate intervention, a tragic incident may occur.
Thousands of people, along with small and large vehicles, use the Naliabari road daily, making its renovation a necessity rather than a choice. The residents are now urging the administration to take swift action and repair the road and Belly Bridge before the arrival of the monsoon.
It remains to be seen whether the authorities will heed the demands of the people or if the region will continue to suffer from administrative neglect.
