Agartala, 12th March 2025: In a major crackdown on drug smuggling, Madhupur Police arrested two smugglers and seized a luxury car carrying Yaba tablets worth over Rs 1 lakh on Wednesday evening in the Madhupur Hospital Chaumuhani area.
According to police sources, the arrested individuals have been identified as Tuton Das, son of Jagadish Das from Dhanchhari School area in Bajendranagar, and Biswajit Dasgupta, son of Nanigopal Dasgupta from Kayadepha area. The smugglers were travelling in a luxury car bearing the registration number TR07E0665 when they were intercepted by the police during a routine vehicle check.
Upon suspicion, the police searched the vehicle and recovered 370 Yaba tablets hidden inside. The operation was conducted in the presence of officials, including the Bishalgarh DCM, Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Debjit Chatterjee, and other law enforcement personnel.
Police sources revealed that Biswajit Dasgupta has a long history of involvement in Yaba tablet smuggling. He was previously apprehended by locals but allegedly continued his illicit activities even after being penalized. Reports further suggest that he has connections with Rohingya drug networks, intensifying concerns over organized narcotics trade in the region.
Confirming the arrest, Madhupur Police Station OC Debajit Chatterjee stated that the market value of the recovered Yaba tablets exceeds one lakh taka. The arrested individuals will be presented before the Bishalgarh Sub division Court on Thursday for further legal proceedings.
