Agartala, 4th August 2025: The Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) has launched a special awareness programme at Dharmanagar aimed at educating schoolchildren about their rights and the importance of child safety.
The inaugural session was held today at Rajbari Higher Secondary School, where TCPCR Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma formally lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the beginning of the initiative. Alongside her were commission members Chameli Saha, Gautam Kumar Shil and Monika Debbarma as well as faculty members from the school and other invited guests.
“Children are the future of our nation. Every section of society has a responsibility to ensure their protection, education, and mental development. Through this programme, our goal is to raise awareness among children about their fundamental rights,” said Chairperson Debbarma during the event.
The interactive sessions addressed several pressing issues concerning child welfare. Discussions explored the consequences and legal ramifications of child marriage, raised awareness about child abuse with a particular emphasis on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and examined preventive strategies to curb substance abuse among adolescents. Participants also considered measures to ensure child safety within schools and communities, while highlighting the importance of nurturing mental well-being and building self-confidence in children.
Experts engaged in open dialogue with students, addressing questions and discussing solutions to real-life challenges. According to the commission, four schools in Dharmanagar subdivision have been selected for the first phase of the programme, with plans to expand to additional institutions in future phases.
The TCPCR believes this initiative will not only enhance child safety across Tripura but also foster a culture of awareness and responsibility within society.
