Manipal Hospital Mukundapur launches ‘Anveshana’ in Agartala to strengthen health awareness in Northeast India

Date:

Agartala, 12th May 2026:  In a significant step toward enhancing public health awareness and responsible medical communication in Northeast India, Manipal Hospital Mukundapur organized “Anveshana – Medical Education for Media” in Agartala today.

The programme was attended by Dr. Suklayan Purkayastha, Director (East Region) and Senior Consultant – Neurointerventional & Endovascular Surgery, and Dr. Anindya Basu, Senior Consultant & Clinical Lead – Spine Surgery, alongside representatives from the media. The initiative focused on raising awareness about the growing burden of neurological and spinal disorders, emphasizing early diagnosis, timely treatment, and encouraging responsible health journalism.

Agartala and the wider Northeast region are witnessing a rise in lifestyle-related illnesses, neurological emergencies, chronic kidney disease, and musculoskeletal problems, driving demand for advanced medical services. Despite improvements in Tripura’s healthcare infrastructure, nearly 700 patients were referred outside the state last year for super-specialty treatment in cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. With Manipal Hospital’s advanced unit in Kolkata, patients from Agartala now have access to multidisciplinary, technology-driven care closer to home, reducing the need for long-distance travel.

Speaking on the rising incidence of strokes and neurological emergencies, Dr. Purkayastha noted: “Over the past decade, neurological disorders such as stroke and dementia have become major health challenges in India, including Agartala and the Northeast. Delayed diagnosis and late hospital arrival significantly affect recovery. Treatment within the ‘golden hour’ can save lives and reduce disability. At Manipal Hospitals, our integrated team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-intervention specialists, and rehabilitation experts provide patient-centric care supported by advanced neuroimaging, stroke prevention clinics, and specialized rehabilitation.”

Addressing the growing prevalence of spinal disorders, Dr. Basu highlighted: “Nearly 60–80% of adults experience back pain at some point in their lives. Sedentary lifestyles, poor posture, obesity, and degenerative spine conditions are driving demand for spine-related treatment and surgeries. In Agartala and the Northeast, this issue is increasingly affecting young professionals and working individuals. At Manipal Hospitals Kolkata, we offer minimally invasive surgery, advanced imaging, rehabilitation support, and personalized treatment plans to ensure patients receive comprehensive spine care close to home.”

The word ‘Anveshana’ means “search and discovery,” reflecting the initiative’s mission to promote responsible health communication, public awareness, and capacity building. Similar programmes have already been conducted in Tamluk, Contai, Burdwan, Jamshedpur, Aizawl, Malda, Dinajpur, Darjeeling, and Arunachal Pradesh, and now the initiative has reached Agartala.

Through Anveshana, Manipal Hospitals continues to expand its outreach across Northeast India, ensuring that communities in remote areas gain access to vital information on preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and advanced treatment options.
