Agartala, 24th June 2025: In a bid to strengthen the fight against HIV/AIDS and drug abuse, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder on Tuesday announced that special health and awareness camps will be conducted in all wards of the city.
Addressing media persons after a meeting with councillors, Majumder said, “Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has given us a clear directive—to take the message of a Drug-Free Tripura to every doorstep. This vision will now be seamlessly integrated into all major government outreach programmes.”
As part of this intensified campaign, the Municipal Corporation will organize dedicated HIV/AIDS awareness and health camps across all wards. The initiative aims to sensitize citizens, particularly those vulnerable to infection through injectable drug use, about the risks and preventive measures.
“The data shows that individuals who use injectable drugs are at a higher risk of contracting HIV. These camps will not only spread awareness but also provide on-site health services,” the Mayor stated.
He further highlighted the Corporation’s plans to promote voluntary blood donation. “Blood donation drives will also be intensified. Every unit of donated blood undergoes rigorous screening, including tests for HIV, which adds another layer of preventive action,” Majumder added.
The campaign marks a significant step toward improving public health and aligning local governance efforts with the state’s broader anti-drug and HIV prevention initiatives.
