One-day Fish Fair held at Manubazar: South district moves towards self-reliance in modern aquaculture

Agartala, 20th December 2025 :  A one-day fish fair was successfully organized at the Basundhara Forest Awareness Centre in Manubazar under Sabroom subdivision, aiming to make fish farming more modern, profitable, and scientific.

The event was inaugurated with traditional rituals, including the presentation of risa and floral bouquets to guests, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The fair was conducted under the supervision of South District’s Deputy Director of Fisheries, Tikendra Jamatia.

The program was graced by Shukla Charan Noatia, Minister of Cooperation and Minority Affairs as the chief guest. Special guests included Dakshin Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Datta, Satcchand Block Panchayat Samiti Chairman Prabhas Lodh, State Fisheries Director Santosh Das, social worker Dipayan Choudhury, MLA Pramod Reang, along with other dignitaries and officials.

During the fair, nine successful fish farmers were honored with mementos and traditional shawls. Additionally, farmers who had suffered losses due to attacks by miscreants were each provided compensation of ₹10,000, restoring confidence among the community.

The fair showcased informative posters, stalls on advanced fish farming techniques, and improved fish varieties. In his address, Minister Shukla Charan Noatia emphasized, “We have entered the era of scientific fish farming. With modern technology, both production and income will increase.” He further remarked, “Farmers are our true gods. Once we had to import fish from other states, but today, thanks to government initiatives, our farmers are moving towards self-reliance.”

Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta urged farmers to maintain direct communication with the department and assured them of full cooperation. The event concluded with a brief speech by Chairman Prabhas Lodh, after which guests visited various stalls.
