Over 20 Hospitalized with Suspected Food Poisoning in Kalyanpur

Agartala, 23rd June 2024 : Thirty residents of Santinagar village in Kalyanpur, Khowai District, were admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting.

BJP MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, who visited the Kalyanpur Community Health Care Center, reported that the individuals suddenly fell ill with symptoms including severe stomach ache, vomiting, and loose motion.

“This morning, I was informed that since last night, several people in Santinagar village, Kalyanpur Sub-division, Khowai District, had fallen ill with severe stomach aches and vomiting. I immediately went to the hospital to speak with doctors and patients. About 30 people are affected. The doctors are treating them, and while some are stable, they are being closely monitored. There was no particular event; this occurred quite suddenly,” stated the MLA.

One patient recounted feeling unwell around midnight, experiencing a sudden stomach ache, fever, and vomiting. “I have no idea what caused this. There were no events or festivals. We ate at home and went to sleep, but these symptoms appeared suddenly,” the patient said.

Dr. Nirmal Sarkar, Chief Medical Officer of Khowai, commented, “Patients began arriving at the hospital last night with severe stomach pain and vomiting. We suspect food poisoning. They are receiving medical care, and although they are stable, we will conduct a camp to investigate the cause of this issue.”
